“Missile Launch, Mood Drop: A Flat Thriller"
After an 8-year break,
73-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow returns with a political thriller —but unfortunately, this ends up a dull movie. The story begins with a missile heading toward the United States, which sets up a tense atmosphere inside the military intelligence rooms and the White House. For a moment, it feels like we’re about to watch a gripping crisis drama.
The movie shifts into endless decision-making scenes between high-ranking government officials. These conversations are meant to feel serious and intense, but after a point, they become repetitive & slow. The screenplay jumps in a non-chronological order, trying to show the same crisis from three different perspectives. Instead of adding depth, this structure makes the film feel more confusing and less engaging.
Overall, A flat and unexciting thriller.
