The movie is the journey of a person from being an ordinary tribe member to the son of the forest, Jaguar paw.
Through the course of the movie he realizes who he is and gains strength from obstacle to obstacle.
There is a sense of urgency throughout the movie due to this time bomb technique used in the screenplay.
And the clock is the coming of rain. Jaguar paw has time till it rains, to save his wife and daughter.
And the wife is not just waiting there for him, she is going through her own battle to come out of the hole and delivering a baby herself in that tough situation.
