"A Fun Campus Setup That Feels Stretched"
This college fest–themed movie
mainly focuses on the efforts to bring back a famous festival that was stopped years ago. The opening, which shows the history behind the fest, was written nicely before shifting into a fun college vibe in the present day.
Since the story mainly focuses on Basil’s character trying to revive the old college fest, the movie avoids the usual classroom fun and campus chaos seen in college films. The first half feels stretched, especially while establishing Basil’s show-off character. Towards the end of the first half, the story introduces an ego clash with the arrival of Tovino’s character.
The second half focuses on the rivalry between the college students and a local goon, and this part works to an extent with a few entertaining moments. But while trying to balance the conflict and the success of the fest together, the writing starts lagging, making the emotional angle from the beginning lose its impact by the end.
Overall, the movie has a few enjoyable moments with a colourful festive vibe, but it is not consistently engaging. The 2-hour-40-minute runtime feels too long, and tighter writing could have made it more effective.
