"A Harmless Family Entertainer That Never Quite Becomes a Memorable Comedy"
Avarachan and Sons has a warm, family-friendly atmosphere and tells its story through its central character, Avarachan, played by Biju Menon. Avarachan is a carefree widower who lives with his two sons, played by Sreenath Bhasi and Ganapathi. The main events of the film unfold through the chaotic situations caused by Avarachan, which are presented in a fun manner.
As Avarachan is the driving force behind most of the situations in the story, the film explores how having a carefree father like him can create trouble for his sons in their everyday lives. The screenplay also brings in the love life of Ganapathi’s character, while Sreenath Bhasi’s character is presented as a quieter and more easy-going elder son. Through these characters, the film also shows their lives and relationships within the family.
The only major development in the story comes when Avarachan flees his hometown due to several reasons. The film then follows how he deals with his life after leaving home and the new people who come into his life. However, once Vinay Forrt’s character enters the story, the film gets a much-needed lift through better-comedy situations. The film eventually comes to an end without feeling boring, although it never becomes a film that delivers back-to-back laughs either.
Overall, Avarachan and Sons is a harmless and easy-going family entertainer that offers a few fun moments. But it never becomes a memorable laugh-out-loud experience.
