After a therapist's patient disappears into a dimension beyond reality, she must venture into the unknown to save him.

“A Disturbing Exploration of Memory and Reality” The writing of The Backrooms
mainly works by creating curiosity around the psychological side of the story. Through the characters played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, the movie explores this mysterious world without explaining everything. As they enter the Backrooms, many strange things happen, but the film avoids giving straightforward answers. This makes the story more complex and open to different interpretations. After a simple beginning, the film gradually shifts into psychological horror, exploring themes of memory, trauma, fear, and escapism. The direction does an excellent job of maintaining an uneasy feeling throughout the film. The production design is a major strength, with its endless yellow rooms, long corridors, and strange spaces creating a creepy and unforgettable atmosphere. The cinematography is equally impressive. Many scenes are shot in a found-footage style, which adds realism and tension. The camera often makes the characters look small inside these huge spaces, creating a strong feeling of fear, isolation, and helplessness. What I liked most is how the Backrooms reflect the characters' fears, memories, and emotional wounds, giving the film a depth that goes beyond typical horror. Overall, the movie may require multiple viewings to fully understand. It does not offer easy answers, but its unique world-building and unsettling atmosphere make it a memorable experience that stays with you long after it ends.
