"A Respectful but Repetitive War Drama"
The movie is set during the same 1971
war as the first film, but tells it from another angle. Because of this, the writing doesn’t feel fresh, and the storytelling feels too similar to the original, making it seem repetitive rather than new.
The 3 hour 22 minute runtime feels too long. With no fresh ideas in the screenplay, the movie feels stretched and could have been at least an hour shorter.
The first half focuses on the personal lives of Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, showing their friendship and flashbacks. While this builds their characters, it takes up too much time and slows the movie down.
The second half focuses on war scenes that are well shot. Even though familiar in style. It has less melodrama, and the dialogues and atmosphere carry a strong patriotic tone.
Overall, the movie doesn’t offer anything new in its writing, but it can be watched for a small nostalgic feeling of the first part.
