Capernaum

2018 Arabic MovieDrama

While serving a five-year sentence for a violent crime, a 12-year-old boy sues his parents for neglect.

Dhanush R
The weight Zain carried in each frame is easily one of the best acting in world
cinema. We can feel the pain and helplessness. He knows that it is not his fault that he is in this situation. From a young age he has been carrying this burden, a kid who should be going to school, is working hard to provide for himself and his siblings. But his threshold hit when his sister Sahar was pushed away from his life by his parents. Some situations make you mature beyond your age. Zain might be a child but he thinks like a man. Even Zain's parents are helpless in this country, but it doesn't add up to the sacrifice of these innocent children. The last frame, Zain's smile summarises the movie. A child who should be playing, studying, most importantly smiling like this, is pushed to live a hell life. A frame where he is smiling but as an audience we are not.

Such innocence in the acting of characters.
Shows a very dark, horrifying reality of poverty. We must be grateful of basic amenities we have because they often goes for granted.
