Class

I’ve always been a fan of his recommendations, so I finally gave it a watch. And honestly, it was a good watch, but not a great one. The series, adapted from Elite, has a really interesting premise and backdrop. At its core, it shows what privileged and powerful people can get away with when they desperately want to hide something — even their most heinous actions. That part of the story worked really well for me. The mystery, however, felt a little rushed. I often felt that the series was moving too quickly through certain developments where a little more depth could have made the story much stronger. A few additional episodes could probably have helped with the character development and made the mystery more compelling. The casting was good, and I really liked the overall setting and the Indian adaptation of the concept. There are, however, quite a few adult scenes that didn’t always feel convincing or necessary, and I wasn’t particularly comfortable with a few of the portrayals. Still, overall, Class makes for an engaging binge. If you’re looking for something you can start in the evening and finish over a night or a weekend, it’s definitely worth a shot. More than anything, though, it made me think about how much room there still is for Indian-made, contemporary series with strong stories and distinctive worlds. I feel there’s still a gap that needs to be filled, and I’d love to see more Indian series exploring these kinds of themes and settings. For me, Class lands somewhere between good and very good — an interesting concept, a strong backdrop and decent execution, but one that could have benefited from better writing and more breathing room. Now I guess I need to finally watch Elite and see how the original holds up. 😄
