Downbeat

This is the story of an out-of-work drummer, who has no roof over him and no money to eat, in the act of desperation he set up a drum kit using buckets , bowls and plates, and performed on the streets to make money. People see his drumming as a form of expression of joy and happiness, but in his eyes it's an act of identity , Survival and being hopeful. Everyday he does it without fail, but what is the endgame in the freeform of desperation, where he is heading, what is he searching for? That's what the film tries to find the answer for. The editing and sound design brings out the frenzied cutting style and creates the sense of chaos that constantly surrounds Mauro, but in fact there is also a strong backbone to the drama pushing it forward when you start to consider how much of that the character has brought upon himself. The film explores the meaning of expression and desperation and how it is related to seeking artistic purity, and mere surviving. And finding your true self in between this juggling dilemmas.
