MAN OF CINEMA
From two disturbed and troubled teenage boys to violent and toxic adults, this
journey of both these brothers is a brilliant portrait on male violence, conditioning, toxic masculinity, trauma and sexuality. Both of them are so different in nature and action yet they share so many similar traits in many ways which makes them too difficult to keep away from each other for long, the love and care for each other, yet they despise everything about each other. Even at the end they were inseparable. And that climax was a perfect ending. They were both so deeply traumatized, I sadly don't think there ever was a chance of them healing from this. And that's so tragic... as much as heartbreaking. I understand why it ended up like this but when you sit in that silence at the end you think this shouldn't have ended like this. Every single action of them took dark turns in their lives. I just can't praise Richard Gadd enough for his writing and performance. Man is fucking genius. Its so difficult to write perfect character development and give it fitting ending and also perform one of the character, but richard gadd completely nailed it. SPOILER AHEAD: I liked the fact that both died at the end, because both were scumbags and assholes in their own ways, you can argue one is bigger cunt than the other, but if either one of them would be alive at the end, I don't think that would be a fitting end. Because this story has no clear favs, you will hate, despise and disgust both the characters for their actions. That's why for me it was a perfect ending. I kinda think its borderline poetic that Ruben killed him first, because throughout the series he sent people to coma and stuff, he didnt really take into consideration how cruel he can be blinded by rage, so him killing someone and deciding to commit a suicide of some sort is a good conclusion of his arc tbh. Both of them stuck forever in the cycle of guilt , fear and in search of love and they never really understood what it really means to be a man.
