MAN OF CINEMA
Loss of loved ones can feel like loss of part of your life which leaves a
gaping emptiness that cannot be filled by anyone and anything.
Most Films around death are either chaotic, melodramatic or even funny. But this film feels very poignant and meaningful. It talks about silence that has absorbed the house leaving all members of the family in shock and sorrow which has not faded yet.
Each person deals with grief differently, here also we see the father has moved on and found comfort somewhere else. But daughter has not come to terms yet, she is the one who has inherited pain and suffering which she has to carry for life.
You can see their lives are not the same anymore, their house is not the same anymore, it was the mother who was holding the pieces together, but now it feels like there is a wall between them, their relationship dynamics have changed, and it gets more and more worse upon certain revelations. A father once she is idolised is now a mere cruel person with whom she has to cope with. But there is one thing, her mom's recipe book, which gives her so much comfort and makes her feel close to her mom.
The film with subtle and grounded screenplay and dialogues explores the themes of dogmatism, superstition, patriarchy and handling grief in a perfect way.
How do we deal with life after a death? What do we take from it? and what do we make out of it? Thats what inheritance talks about, its reall beautiful small film.
