This film came out in 2013 and was Sushant Singh Rajput's first film.
I don't know why I never watched it. After 13 years, I'm finally watching this film, and after SSR's passing, this film hit me on a completely different level. They say you realise the value of something after losing it, and for me, that was SSR. You can never measure the potential, talent and ability this man had because it was immense. After watching this film, you realise that we have lost something really precious from this world, and nobody can ever fill that void.
I didn't watch this film because someone recommended it to me. When it came out, there weren't even any theatres where I lived, and I didn't watch it when it came on TV either. Today, I just felt like watching it, and now I regret discovering it this late.
Kai Po Che! (2013) is a Sports, Drama Hindi film. It follows three friends who want to open a sports shop. The film explores their brotherhood, complications, conflicts and dynamics. It takes us through various emotional journeys. The story blends fiction with real-life events and presents a realistic picture of society and reality.
The film explores themes like love, friendship, brotherhood, sports, religion, politics, communism and discrimination. Politics was dividing people, while sports were bringing people together. As the story moves forward, we also witness rage, hatred, repentance, riots, violence and terror, which eventually take the film towards an unexpected and tragic ending. Violence can hurt anyone, regardless of who they are.
Kai Po Che! is also the story of a protégé child and how these friends take him under their wing and train him in cricket. It looks like a story about brotherhood and friendship, but deep down, it is also about moving on, resolving conflicts and acceptance. Sushant Singh Rajput delivers one of his finest career performances in his debut film.
Well-shot, well-made and well-written film.
