Maa Behen (2026) is a dark comedy, thriller film where we see the story of
Rekha, Jaya, and Sushma, a mother and two sisters. Rekha is a single mother, Jaya is a housewife, and Sushma is a teenage girl. All three are facing different troubles in their lives. After an incident, when all three meet under one roof, the story that unfolds is a humorous, thrilling, suspenseful, and morally complicated, dilemma-filled ride that sticks to its genre. It was so enjoyable to watch. The film makes you laugh, cry, and unsettles you, keeping you immersed. The film's story is layered, exploring themes like patriarchy, feminism, identity, dignity, solace, and liberation, presenting a sharp satire. Towards the end, with its turns, twists, and revelations, the film's narrative becomes clear. The cinematography is lovely. The film's lighting was done by Netflix. What a title, Maa Behen, it sounds like someone is cursing cuss words, but it's suitable for the story of these mothers and sisters, showing how our so-called civilized society views girls, women, and ladies. Audiences who watch films like "Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain" stay away from this or you will be going to have a rough time with this one. Triptii Dimri is such a fine actor, man. It's genuinely frustrating to see someone with her talent constantly being reduced to eye-candy and glamorous roles. She has so much more to offer than just looking good on screen. Give her a well-written character, and she'll remind everyone why she's one of the most talented actors of her generation. Highly recommended, watch it now.

#MaaBehen's biggest problem isn't its melodrama.
It's that the women at its center remain surprisingly underwritten. A film about liberation should be able to imagine bigger lives
