MAN OF CINEMA
For a kashyap movie this is quite underwhelming, half baked, confused and lost
in its own thoughts without providing the perspectives and depth.
Kashyap himself admitted many times and many blamed him for his thought process of saying lots of things in one movie, i think this movie is the ultimate victim of it.
I feel Kashyap wanted to portray multiple real life topics and mashed it into one story, like how countless innocents/accused rotting in the jail without a trial , the broken system of jail and judiciary, the struggle and psychology of failing actor, also the incel culture. But when you sit through the entire movie, you realise how isolated each of these things are in this film, and they never really come together as a gripping storyline. Instead the film comes out looking like a victim card for men no matter how big of an asshole or arrogant he was.
I don't know whether kashyap really wanted to victimize him and show as a completely innocent person or an honest character fighting for justice, but somehow it comes across in the wrong way. I think that's because of the lack of depth in the character writing and development, and the perspectives, the film never really allows us to judge them separately for their own actions, right from the start it wants us to believe he is the innocent.
The first half brilliantly maintains the suspense and perfectly showcases his life inside prison. That is where you most enjoy the film. But after that it starts to feel like kashyap never really wanted to leave the walls of kashyap. He started getting involved in the story inside the prison and lot lesson what the stakes were outside and the justice. Even at the end the film doesn't really help anyone, instead it leaves a bad image for innocents who really want justice.

The idea works in theory but the execution stumbles.
The performances are on point but certain characters and events are just underwhelming and do not add anything to the story.
