dark sinister horrifying story. This is a terrifying brilliant take on how sometimes love turns into obsession and into control and to the point where you feel you can never get out of this situation, you will start to feel more and more suffocated, stuck and tortured in the relationship. And this movie elevates that situation and creates one of the best horror stories. Inde Navarrette scarred me for life, she is absolutely terrifying. She projects something so complex emotions and behaviour with such ease, from being emotionally vulnerable to physically deranged, to complete psycho, it can really overwhelm you from her sickly presence, but also makes you love her so much because of her performance. This movie really hits you when you realise the real Nikki was trapped in there and Bear 100% knew that at some point very early but he kept it going. At first i assumed it was like a conscious hijacking of desire and this was how Nikki would be obsessed, not a separate entity going insane. But it was more like possession and i think Bear was trying to convince himself it wasn't the wish too, it was really nikki who loves him, like he wanted it to be genuine so bad, he was in denial of the truth. He was a complete asshole, the movie projects him as a very sad, stunted and constantly overwhelmed person. But when you really understand the film, you will know he is as tragic as he is selfish and fucked up. This complexity is what makes it such a good film for me, while it is also a very effective horror experience. Curry Baker does an insane job in creating dramatic tension by stretching out scenes that are only necessary to be stretched out. Whether it’s a character opening a laptop browsing through Reddit, or the situation in the party or even simply sitting in a car having a heart to heart, the tension buildup is done exceptionally well. I love how they used shades and shadows to creep the fuck out of you. That one scene where she is standing at the door, only her eyes were shining in complete darkness, that scene terrified me. It's a great camera work technique which shows how you can fear something so much which you loved so much. There is a very thin line between fear and love and this movie perfectly showcases that. It's great how this movie started dialogues among many about relationships, partners and their psychology and behaviour. This is what a film can do when it resonates with so many people. One more thing i wanted to say is how the grief is also very important in this movie, it starts with him grieving his cat's death and at the end he is grieving about the death of his delusion of love. I felt that was very interesting.
