backstory and especially having Edward tell Elinor he would break it off with Lucy. If she said something indicating her feelings for him. Edward Ferras would never! That's like the whole point of his character! He stands as a foil and keeps his promises to a young woman even after he no longer loves her and has found love with another. And that is part of what Elinor loves about him. It was such a strange choice. I also found it frustrating that Elinor, who is supposed to be the sense part of sense and sensibility and is reserved with her feelings to a fault, gets deeply emotional and angry when they're discussing it. There are only a couple of times in the book where she let's her emotions loose and its cathartic because it's so rare. This Elinor behaves more properly than Marianne, but she's barely less emotional than her. This movie is still a beautiful adaptation of the book with stellar performances, beautiful set designs and costumes and well shot sequences. Anyone who has not read the book will enjoy the movie more.
