Decently made, emotionally sincere, but I couldn’t fully surrender to it.
Tere Ishk Mein (2025) is a Hindi film in the Romance–Action genre. The film explores themes like obsession, masculinity, restraint, conflict, madness, and a very flawed, slightly illogical lover-boy character.
If this story were to exist in the real world, a lot of things simply wouldn’t fit. The narrative is divided into multiple episodic arcs — like Dhanush falling in love, then transforming from an animal-like man into a human, then from a crazed lover to clearing UPSC, and from there becoming an IAF pilot. In all this, the lack of authenticity and research is clearly felt.
If you ignore the flaws and logic gaps, Anand L Rai seems to be aiming for something deeper — showing intensity, tragedy, longing, pain, guilt, innocence, and the sincerity of love. But toward the end, the film becomes a bit preachy. For me, all these arcs worked only in bits and pieces, mainly because of the emotions and themes embedded within them.
Dhanush’s Hindi dialogues — honestly, you just have to tolerate them. His performance is okay-ish. But the real highlights are the performances by Vineet Kumar Singh, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Prakash Raj, and Kriti Sanon — genuinely strong work from them.
After watching this film, I realized that women can also become Devdas. Watching that, I was like… hmmmm.
A. R. Rahman has delivered a few good songs; not all are great, but some work well. The title track “Tere Ishk Mein” is still playing in my head.
Basically, with this film too, Anand L Rai is trying to set a new standard for lovers and love stories — where someone is going to the moon, while someone else is becoming an IAF pilot and going to fight on the borders.
Overall, I liked the film (though I can’t say that wholeheartedly). It’s decently made and offers a decent one-time watching experience.
