Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me

Particularly for the way it refocuses the narrative on Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) and transforms this almost mystical character(in our head) into a tragic and devastating figure completely shattered by the addiction of drugs and delusion which makes her lose grip on reality. This is the only film i guess, where both the character and the audience knew what's going to happen to her at the end and still it gives one crazy ride to hell. The film uses nightmare horror, heavily featuring incest, violence, and addiction, but its goes far beyond the series in its exploration of suffering, to the point of becoming a particularly terrifying visual experience. It offers a straightforwardly despairing narrative, with very little subtlety and many shocking moments. I love how lynch presents the depiction of evil lurking beneath the veneer of appearances, and use it as a kind of aesthetic and narrative laboratory for his films. For me this film was like shared dream between lunch and the audience, where we go through the same experiences and emotions and even the film's aesthetics make you feel like that. Like lynch is trying to tell you, cinema is one shared dream which we all experience together.
