Uyir is a Malayalam crime thriller drama and a slow-burn film based on a true
story. It follows a probationary SI who gets involved in a case after a woman’s dead body is found. The more he tries to solve it, the more complicated it becomes, slowly turning into a murder mystery and later going into child trafficking. There are some dark turns that show the wicked side of human nature, with themes like infidelity, desire and irresponsible parenting. The ending gets quite dark and emotional. But overall, I found the film pretty mediocre. It follows the usual crime thriller template, making it feel predictable and generic, and the slow pace made the runtime feel even longer. Still, the film does celebrate the duty, responsibility and commitment of officers who bring two children back to Kerala after rescuing them from child trafficking in Mumbai. For me, it’s just a one-time watch. If you enjoy slow-burn crime dramas, you can give it a try.
