☝🏼 everybody say thank you, young royals. the anxiety felt VISCERAL. the stakes are world-ending in this show because to a sixteen-year-old, they probably are. the romance is beautiful, sure, but it was more a coming-of-age story about a teenager figuring out who he is when the entire world has already decided his identity for him. the romance just happens to be the thing that forces wilhelm to finally look at the cage he's been put in. BUT! i don't care about wilhelm, is the thing. i cared the Least about wilhelm despite him being supposedly the main character, in fact. the social commentary here stings just a little bit more because it goes so much deeper than a basic "rich vs. poor" class division. the true villain of the show is hierarchy. it’s about how systems of power protect themselves at the absolute expense of the individuals trapped inside them. i also want to mention that it really is a harsh reality of the entertainment industry that non-english media has to work ten times as hard to 'make it' globally. i also wanna talk separately about felice's storyline. her arc is an absolute masterclass in showing how wealth and class do not magically erase the realities of race. she comes from immense wealth but her money only buys her proximity to power, not immunity from racism. characters like august are allowed to be incredibly messy, destructive, and deeply flawed without losing their inherent standing because... white boy. welp. big, special shoutout to the storyline surrounding felice's hair. one of the most poignant depictions of assimilation on tv tbh. the literal pain and hours spent straightening her natural hair... yeah. i could go on and on about the social commentary in this show. another show failed by its marketing, if you think about it. but again, a lot of people that watch queer media tend to overfixate on the romance so i can see why they chose that route, but oh well. brilliance. so glad this show exists. so glad people fought to keep it going on netflix despite their Several attempts at cancelling the show.

they did such an amazing job with every character.
i think marketing it as a coming of age instead of a queer love story would have worked better tho. i loved how they were able
