28 Years Later doesn’t try to flip the franchise on its head, but it does a
solid job of building on what came before—moody tone, eye-catching visuals, and some interesting world-building. It’s not the best in the series, but if you’ve followed the journey so far, it’s still worth checking out.
Visually, it goes big. Danny Boyle goes all in with a super-wide 2.76:1 aspect ratio, which gives the chaos a surprisingly classy, epic feel. There are plenty of nods to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, but this one takes a slower, more reflective route.
The story dives into themes like generational fallout and survival burnout, though the middle section drags a bit and some of the emotional moments don’t land quite right. Personally, I found myself missing the raw, scrappy vibe of the earlier films.
