MAN OF CINEMA
Some films and its characters carry heavy pain and burden in their heart, they
know what's going to happen after few moments but for the audience they dont give it away suddenly, it masks all that pain with humour and sweet moments which we are going to enjoy anticipating nothing bad until it hits so hard that you will be among those characters weeping their heart out at the end, but also trying to move on and dance out your sorrows.
Hit The Road is one such movie, where we see the whole family on a road trip ( well at least thats what you feel at the beginning) we dont know where they are going, whats going to happen, but as the movie goes forward slowly you gather hints that all is not well and something sinister going to happen.
But in between all that, the things you are going to love in this film are the situations they encounter on the road. They are hilarious, sweet and heartwarming. It has very anxious humour to it, something which is so funny but not outright caricature like. Very subtle dry humour.
And the way characters are written just elevates those situations, especially that little kid, he is the heart and soul of this film. You will absolutely adore him. His performance is addictive which will leave you wanting more of him.
In iranian movies we hardly hear background scores, let alone songs. But here old iranian songs are brilliantly used in the movie for multiple purposes. Whenever these songs play in the car's music system, each song is so enchanting, moody and emotional, especially the last two acts where you are fully in the mood of the movie. It's very inventive, refreshing in Iranian cinema which you don't see often in their films.
The movie is also very gorgeously shot, you see how truly beautiful iran is. As they travel through villages we see landscapes changing from desert to green mountain and barren lands. Film captures some of scenes so beautifully with these landscapes in the background.
Its very comforting, heartful yet emotional film which also carries a political undertone, sense of separation and what it means to get freedom and it comes with what cost.
