MAN OF CINEMA
A blood sucking lonely vampire girl in the snow covered swedish town where
every individual is equally lonely and miserable in their lives.
I just stumbled on this movie on Letterboxd and decided to watch it, and my god its so damn good. A dark coming of age vampire girl and boy who gets bullied everyday.
Its a story of unusual, unromantic companionship or connection which these two kids build, when they find similarities in each other.
This is a movie which feels so real and authentic that not even once you question the supernatural element of it. A movie re-invented dead and tired genre of vampire with a refreshing, dark and realistic narrative.
It's rare to find an artistic and realistic movie in the horror genre, but this fits so perfectly in it. A beautiful yet haunted creation which not only shocks you but you will find a sense of comfort at the end of the movie in a weird way.
The movie uses a bleak snowy cold setting to show miserablity among people, how lonely and isolated each one of them , in such a place to troubled kids find comfort in each other. It's an affecting horror drama.
It is a near perfect horror film that captures the horrors of bullying, horrors of loneliness, coming of the age of vampire kid in an unflinching fashion. It is Gorgeous, depressing, haunting , filled with tenderness and poignant in many ways.
It brilliantly shows how damaged people come together to form connections, how they learn to survive and, ultimately, where they find genuine love.
