I finally got around to one of the several long overdue 2024 films, if you like
the horror/thriller genre, this one is for you. This is Korea's highest grossing film of the year, and possibly Korea's best of 2024 as well, and if you watch Korean movies, you know the films got to be GOOD to be at the top.
The cast is STACKED, starting with Choi Min-Sik, you know the film is gonna be something different if he's in it and in this one, he's got a stellar set of co-stars who were all phenomenal. For the uninitiated, he's the guy from Old Boy (one of the best WTF movies ever). This film is set in present time, but the plot has a lot to do with Japanese-Korean history and related lore.
I don’t know if I’d necessarily put this in the horror genre, but I guess how scary/creepy a film is, is subjective. Depending on how you look at the plot, you’re either in for a horror film with a twist, or two well done horror films in one.
This film may remind you of how The Wailing (one of the best Horror films ever) looks (and not necessarily how it feels) and that’s sadly the expectation I went in with. For some reason, I wanted it to be another Wailing, and it wasn’t. Going in with skewed expectations was not helpful. And to me, it felt like I watched two films and the connection between the two, while solid, felt a little…less convincing to me personally.
All that said, what’s scary to me may not be scary to you and vice versa. While Exhuma didn't come close to how The Wailing made me feel, it just might work for you. This is one of the best films of last year regardless. If you’re a fan of the horror genre, don’t miss out.

This is not like an usual horror thriller.
Scares me without any jump cuts or creepy sounds. The world they build; the atmosphere and; is something haunts me throughout the film.

The movie's concept is promising, but it lacks a convincing narrative due to
