An exceptionally crafted raw thriller which is emotionally charged which blends
personal drama with a stark look at misinformation, mob justice, and class fault lines in India.
Great debut by Karan Tejpal. He employs themes like Mob Mentality, Fake News, Class Divide and Power of empathy. The film critiques how viral misinformation like WhatsApp rumours leads to tragedy and injustice. The film Spotlights social vulnerability by contrasting the privileged urban brothers with the vulnerable tribal mother. Raman's moral conviction and Gautam's transformation underscores the power of empathy.
The acting performances were top-notch. Abhishek Banerjee, Shubham Vardhan and Mia Maelzer were goated. The performances were gut-wrenching.
The Cinematography by Ishaan Ghosh was splendid. The long takes were crafted with such finesse. The natural lighting, claustrophobic framing in vehicles and crowds creates a tense and immersive atmosphere.
The direction was so great. No melodrama and no heavy score. Karan just relies on ambient sound which builds authenticity and emotional weight. The film is tight focused, doesn't move away from the plot. The visuals are very realistic and the sound design was great.
The film is based on a real WhatsApp-fueled mob lynching in Assam, 2018.
Damn it's very sad to see such things have happened. Like just based on a freaking WhatsApp rumour, these people go and kill the innocent. It seems like they just wants to kill for fun and ego and pride and not give one fuck about justice.
Even though the film is so good, I felt at some places, the intensity could have been toned up and the film could have been paced up a bit and the emotional core should have been more.
Anyways, excellent film. Check this one out..
