A masterpiece that blends history with mythological so fine but the main factor
of the film turns out be the realism Robert Eggers brings onto the screen.
Just like The VVitch and The Lighthouse, Robert retains his essence but scales up to an epic Viking revenge saga. The scale of this is huge. The film's writing and direction was on-point except for one sequence at the middle which is stretched a little bit.
The Cinematography by the amazing Jarin Blaschke was splendid like always. It's been a very long time since I had the pleasure to witness his masterclass on screen. The long tracking shots were carried out with such finesse especially in battle action. Jarin uses stark and symmetrical compositions. The colour palette of the film contains bleak greys, cold blues, earthy tones - everything is raw with no gloss effect.
The film follows themes like Fate vs Free Will - Amleth's choices seems personal but are also inevitable which echoes Ragnarok, Violence Cycle - Generations of violence being passed, Mythologizing Pain - characters interpret trauma as some kind of cosmic prophecy, Nature & Supernatural - Iceland symbolising haunting, unforgiving and a sacred person while the rituals, animals spirits and the Valkyrie all reflect a world ruled by gods.
The acting performances were outstanding. Alexander Skarsgard as Amleth was absolutely fantastic. Nicole Kidman as Queen Gudrun was outstanding. Anya Taylor-Joy was goated as always. Willem Dafoe's cameo excited me like anything and him delivering such a massy line for Amleth made my day. This film has a little massy approach at some parts which will give you goosebumps.
The film delves into a world with Norse Mythology as its main culture.
The editing was outstanding. The score and sound design elevated the film to a whole another level.
Realism is key.
Will be breaking down each and everything in re-watch.
Robert Eggers is a genius and he is one of my favourite filmmakers now.

The twists worked more than the folklore based narrative.
It was just a loud thrust by men throughout for revenge & vengeance.

This Movie, although aiming for greatness, falls flat on it's face.
It feels lengthy, tedious & boring, all at the same time.
While the visuals are certainly commendable & the
