Rewatching this film after so long, the experience i got from the first 2
watches changed a lot this time. The world-building was good in the film giving us a sense of connection with the family emotionally. The way the creature attack was minimised to a particular limit was really underwhelming. Glenn's death sequence was excellent. The film was going well until a man part of a religious cult came. From that scene, the film was not about the creature but about the family vs the religious cult. After the bland climax where even the Grandma's sacrificial scene felt useless, the film just takes its characters to the place they intended to go at the middle part of the film to survive from the Vesps in just a transition. And freaking Rob lives like wtf bro. John R. Leonetti choked very badly. Very very badly. The film tries very hard to be like " The last of Us " and " A Quiet Place " combined but instead it turned out as an overthought mediocre mania. The acting performances were really amazing. The actors did their job perfectly but everything went in vain. The CGI was well done. The sound design was pretty good. The writing was the Vesps for the film's output. I loved the film when I first saw it in 2019 and then rewatched it the same year. But this is seriously some disappointing stuff, especially after that world-building. The visual aesthetic for most of the film were very bad. The yellow colour grading didn't suit well with the film's cinematography. The camera movements were good at action sequences but since some of them were slowed down in editing, obviously it felt bland and weird. They just choked a film that could have been a lot better as a series or as a film franchise. They showed that the religious group wants to take the girl because they she has a divine gift of silence. Freaking hell. The girl is just deaf and she's been speaking louldy and she also whispers for like 96 percent of the film. She can still make noise and all of them will be dead. This shows how bad the writing was. I can maintain silence The whole freaking family knows sign language and they all have been speaking for like 97 percent of the film. I repeat they all know sign language. This film doesn't make sense at all. The creatures were just for a joke.
